Analysis Variable:   Development Obligations
Description
This variable indicates the amount of development obligations by type of performer.
Alerts
Beginning in FY 2000, Department of the Air Force did not report BA 6.7 Operational Systems Development data because the agency misunderstood reporting requirements. During the Volume 57 (FY 2007-09) data collection cycle, Department of the Air Force edited prior year data from FY 2000 to FY 2007 to include BA 6.7 Operational Systems Development data. The Department of the Air Force did not include BA 6.7 Operational Systems Development data in their preliminary FY 2009 and FY 2010 data; therefore it is not comparable to FY 2008 (actual) data.
Notes
Obligations represent the amounts for orders placed, contracts awarded, services received, and similar transactions during a given period, regardless of when the funds were appropriated.
Development is systematic use of the knowledge or understanding gained from research, directed toward the production of useful materials, devices, systems, or methods, including design and development of prototypes and processes. It excludes quality control, routine product testing, and production.
